I will get a picture of the tag. KULTULZ I googled "A" tag there seemed to be a model #. I thought this might be a easy question. I can pull the axles. Thanks . Thank you robertpeak. robertpeak will you be at F100s in Pigeon forge in june ? I plan to drive my 65
Thanks guys, Does the tag have a number on the 71 that would tell me what it could be ? Its parked a ways from where I am.
The easiest way to tell if the rear axle is the original 28 spline or if the housing has been changed to a later model that might be a 31 spline is to look at the back of the axle housing. If the housing is smooth with a drain plug it is the original 28 spline rear end. The 31 spline parts won't swap into the axle housings with the smooth back because when Ford went to 2 1/4 inch rear drums they narrowed the housing slightly and moved the bearing seat on the axle to give room for the wider drums.
I just noticed you said 71 parts truck. Sorry. But pulling an axle is the only sure fire way to know. Since that 68 housing in the picture came out of a 65 truck that the PO said was the original.

Nope.. don't even go to PF in the off season .Really wish they would change where they have the show, but I guess that will never happen..
I think that actually says WEV-G which is probably a 28 spline, 3.25-1 open, 8 3/4 inch ring gear. That's my guess. But ND or someone with a parts manual might not agree.

Or they might agree. Looks good. Only variations they mention is sometime mid-1971 model year they went from a medium differential bearing and cup to a slimline bearing and cup. Before or after J30,000.
