I recently sold my 90 Standard cab short bed F-150, and was on a quest for a 6th gen 4x4 so I thought. I then stumbled onto this 75 F-100 Ranger XLT 2wd truck. Ended up striking a deal and brought it home yesterday after a 13hr round trip from beautiful mountains of TN.
Details on the truck are 302 Auto, A/C , front discs. It’s a solid straight truck, paint is probably a 5’ job IMO. But it’s a nice day cruiser/driver not a show winner. I’m compiling a list of items I’m going to be addressing with either replacement or refurbishment. 1st on my list are factory outside mirrors and ditching the horrid wheels.
This is my first 6th gen truck so I’ll be leaning on you guys for help and advice along the way. It’s been almost 25 yrs since I’ve driven and maintained a carb vehicle but I’m excited about it.
That truck would get $8500 all day long here in Az. Assuming it's free of rust, a short box in that shape is hard to find. Good call on the mirrors and wheels. 13 hours of either driving 60-65 mph or 75 mph and listening to that engine rev 3000+ RPM's with the 3sp auto. Any plans for overdrive or will it not see that many highway miles?

I trailered it home, I haven’t really thought about a trans swap. What would be a good replacement? AOD? It’s not going to be a highway vehicle just cruise locally. I did swap mirrors already!
I know a few guys swap A4OD and 4R70's but the latter requires a controller. Way better drive ability, gas mileage and less revs which will have the engine not working as hard.Plenty of threads of guys doing this. Have you driven it on the highway? Perhaps the gears in it are RPM friendly?
