I noticed that and hesitated about posting that picture.... LOL And he painted the running boards black and not body color. This nice 56 is owned by a guy from Indiana that I am friends with on Facebook. He bought it from a former shop teacher he had in HS who bought it new. He is also in to flying.
Now here is one of our own. Here is Ray Tash's Missy Green, a F350 he sold a few years ago. And it is beautiful!
One more... this is an untouched original Meadow Green 56 owned by a guy that is a FTE member but has not been around in a long time. It does look like someone put reproduction hubcaps on...
I put those very same ones on my F3. Wish I paid 69 cents apiece for them!!
I think they look good, and they are easy to clean with no painted colors to deal with.

About how far back from the front of the running board are they? I am thinking of installing them and was wondering if there was an actual spot that they should be in? Or just go by eye and personal preference.
Here's a photo of my 1951 M3 step plate.
A quick search of my 20+ vintage ads and brochures, do not show any step plates in any illustrations.
That doesn't mean they weren't available, just means that I have nothing that shows them.

That is what I did to locate them. I taped some paper on the driver's running board and then stepped in and out of the truck 1/2 dozen times without looking down. Then I screwed down the plates where the footprints were concentrated the most. I located the passenger side to match the location of the driver side. For me that was about 2 inches forward of the center of the door. I know if I centered it on the door, only half my foot would touch the plate when stepping in.
