Very true! So how about the holes in the fender for the blinker lights? I'm going through the same thing now. As i ordered new front fenders, my old fenders have these beautiful Stat Signal period correct turn signal lights. I really like they way they look. I know how you feel making holes in something it is a little painful sometimes. I remember wincing at the thought of seatbelt hardware backing plates being installed, thats even worse going through the floor board of the cab. I guess thats a whole other topic too. Cause how effective are seat beats in a truck like this where the steering wheel hub is a known killer?
Greg, my boards are painted with POR-15 under and Rustoleum truck bed liner over that. Then some cheap NAPA Fleet semi-gloss rattle can black over that. Easy to touch up the top coat that way.
My truck is stored 5 miles away in a relative's garage. Can't take pictures for awhile of the boards or fender lights. I scrounged for two years to find those lights. They aren't Ford but even though they were used they looked great to me. I also have some White Truck clearance lights from the late 50's that match them to put on some day.
Tom
Tom, your big truck F3 would look good with clearance lights on the roof. Show us pics of them. If they are in the same condition as your TS then they must be nice.

I know what you mean. I took a radio out of a 55 F700 years ago. I thought about putting it in my 54 but I couldn't come around to cutting a hole in the dash.
Turn signals: my 54 had them on the fender. When I fixed up my truck in 1999, I thought long and hard about keeping them on the fender or putting a double filament socket in the parking lights. I chose the latter. My 55 F350 has factory turnsignals. But it had big Signal Stay lights on the fenders. I kept them but also wired the parking lights, which already had two filament sockets, to serve as TS and flashers also.
Hey Very Very Nice Abe! Thanks for the all the pics and responses. Trucks are cool because of all the stuff you can put on them. Personally I really like some of the period correct accessories Ford or not, on the trucks they look more work like, more used that way. Tom- like Abe said definitely send pics when you get the truck out. A new thread with some of the these details is certainly called for!
Thanks Tom, that seems like a good way to do it. Abe, I see your boards are black also- looks good. Were the running boards originally body color or black when these trucks were built?? Seem 'em both ways....
I also went with bed liner on running boards. It's a great option if you have kids or will have kids around the truck. Dont have to constantly worry about them not using the step plate and scratching up a nice paint job.
