I have a 1999 f250 xcab 8ft bed 4x4 dana 50 front axle . it has a noise in front end when you hit bumps. it feals like something is hiting the floor when it does . cant find any thing lose in front end put new lenks on swaybar bushings where looking rough.my friend next door has a 99 4door 4x4 diesel doing the same thing .so I hope its some thing that ford guys know what it is I have also put all new seals , bearings , ujoints balljoints an lockouts in new . but the truck was doing this before I worked on it . the truck also drives oddit kind of drifts like not coming back center you have to counter stear. this is hard to describe . thank learning a lot about these ford here so thanks to all
Did you change shocks? You could try taking them off and going for a drive. Everytime I have had a pop in the floorboard 9 times out of 10 its a swaybar endlink.
the shocks look like oe . swaybar endlinks are new less than 5k miles iinstaled those .what would be a good long lasting shock that wont brake the bank . I will try to explane this it drives strange . I have to use both hands . it stears easy enough but if you stear a little left or right it wont come back streat with out you stearing it back . like my friend says its like a wig wag his truck is having the same problem he has same noise an thump as mine and drives the same . his truck has a lot more miles on it to over 200k mine is at 138k . I have the alum. wheels stock with 285 75 16 . the truck seems to set very tall . did the factory use 2 blocks on rear axle .( each side ) it is the heavy 250 with very low gear
I had the same problem basically. Hit a bump just right and it sounded and felt like something hit the floorboard on the front pass side. After new sway bar links and bushing I finally realized the right rear shock had no bushing left in the top. Two new rear shocks solved my problem.
Easy to check shock bushings, you can also spray some lubricant on them (go on heavy), see if the noise subsides or changes.
Same goes with leaf spring bushings. Visually inspect them while on the truck, also spray some lubricant on them.
If not that, then Ford has an updated isolator kit for the earlier model Super Duty leaf springs. They go inbetween the leafs, which might be your issue.
