Headliner shipping costs!?!?

Have been searching vendors, does anyone know of a source for a headliner that won't cost an extra $125 or truck freight pricing for shipping...?
I'm thinking it might be less costly to have one custom made by a local upholstery shop.

I just looked up the headliner kit on Dennis Carpenter - states it is covered under their $15 flat rate shipping policy.

I got one last week from Dennis Carpenter and got the regular shipping cost, not the truck freight cost.

Just spoke with Rod Doors today. Headliner is $275 and shipping to NJ was approximately $40.

If you have a 1963 I might be able to help. I bought one advertised as 61 - 64 and it did not fit my 64. I ended up buying a 65 - 66 model and It appears to fit. I could work out something with the other one I don't know what to do with.

Are the '63's different from '64? I would be interested in working something out, but my concern would be that if it didn't fit your '64, it will also not fit my '63. Was it perhaps for a unibody? Mine is a regular cab flareside.

RodDoors sells their ABS headliner rolled up in a box, so shipping isn't too bad. Depending on, if you're looking for something original or aftermarket will determine, obviously, what you want. I used the RodDoors headliner kit in my 66. The upholstery shop covered it for me in headliner material and installed it. It turned out really nice and the shop owner was pleased the way that it fit the truck. I think it looks a ton better than perforated upscale cardboard.

Thanks a bunch, I'll certainly look at this option!
I was sort of thinking the same thing about the "upscale cardboard."
I'm not a cheapskate, but also not a millionaire. Trying to find a balance of quality and price.
So appreciative of all the recommendations!

Agree with resonateur about RodDoors headliner, I bought one myself. I did not cover mine with material, though. The headliner comes in black only. On the advice of another member here, I went to an auto paint store and bought three or four products by SEM to prep and paint it, trying to get close to a light grey. I am satisfied with it. After reading so many threads about installing the perforated press board ones, I elected not to torture myself.

Im thinking of doing the same with the SEM paint. If I don’t like it I will then cover. I found some really nice material at SMS fabrics but it’s $69 a yard! What prep products did you get from SEM?

I think I got four products, listed below.

Cleaner
Prep(adhesion promoter)
Primer
Color topcoat

You may not actually need the cleaner, since it is new.

Ok thanks! Now I need to try to match up the color to Navajo Beige. Shouldn’t be too hard though, it seems like they have plenty of colors to choose from!

If it is ABS and a molded type liner then it will need cleaning.
I would wash it with Dawn dish soap and hot water a bunch of times then use a wax / grease remover then the prep / adhesion promoter and color coat.

I used SEM products prep & color topcoat, washed with soap & hot water first but have never used the primer, did not see the need.
I have used it on another project not on the road but in & out of my garage now for 10 years and it has been looking good this whole time.

I used the same products on my 81 F100 project, door panels (real fast job to look half way good as I will replace them at some point), kick panels, dash frame & pad cover.
I have used the truck every day for work since Nov. got 3866 miles on it and no issues.
