Maximum trailer size?
According to the manual, my 2001 2WD, 5-sp Stepside Ranger with a hitch ball mounted to the step bumper can tow up to 1440 lbs and up to 200 lbs tongue weight. The owner's manual also says that the frontal area cannot exceed that of the truck.

That is an easy one. 1400 pounds. If you equip your Ranger with a frame mounted hitch, you can refer to the owners manual to see the allowed weight according to your engine size, axle ratio and transmission. Most states require a brake controller for trailers over 1500 pounds.

A landscape trailer is the common size you see behind a ranger. You don't want to tow a RV the frontal area would kill you.
