coolant gauge install??

I am in the process of installing half a dozen isspro gauges. One of them being a coolant gauge. Instead of installing the temp sensor into the side of the water pump (like I typically have done) why couldn't I piggy back the signal off of the factory temp sensor? All the isspro gauge needs (as far as the sending unit goes) is a 12v signal and ground. There are two wires going to the factory temp sensor. The red/white provides the sensor signal to the instrument cluster while the yellow/red provides the ground. It might or might not work. I just thought it was cool. Any thoughts??

The dash gauge shows coolant temp, another one is redundant. Would be interesting as a comparison tho.

On 4R100 trucks the PCM uses oil temp to determine engine temp. The dash gauge is separate, a simple old school coolant temp.

Which model of Isspro did you get? How are they mounted?

Its an EV2. I would like to splice into the oem temp sensor harness and supply the sensor signal wire and ground to the back of the isspro. Instead of using the isspro two wire harness I would use the trucks harness and that way I would have a numerical readout on coolant temp using the trucks temp sensor. The oem sensor would be operating the instrument cluster gauge and then my isspro. make sense?

Your assuming the stock sender is variable resistance and its merely a switch. I would either verify the resistance of the stock sender or use the ISSPRO which the gauge is calibrated to

I’m not sure thd OE sender is as accurate as you would want. Both the ISSPRO and Ford sensors use 5v signal. The range for stock sender may not be the same as ISSPRO.

I have put aux temp sender in the 1/4” block drain hole. That puts it close to EGT probe and makes wiring clean. I usually bring trans temp sender wire along frame and put it in the same wire loom as EGT wire to firewall (clutch master cylinder block off plate is my preferred penetration point).

That's the info I was looking for.

What about installing the isspro sender in the spot on the front of the engine where the secondary temp sensors are located on manual trucks?

I like to twist wire bundles and put them in wire loom.

I think it’s busy up there and wire routing is sensitive. That’s why I’ve chosen the block drain location in the past.

Where would I get the most accurate reading, from the water pump or engine block?

Not sure there would be much difference? Hot coolant should constantly be circulating through the engine.

I have extra stepper motor coolant gauge, sensor is in the thermostat housing.
Shows 200-210f when fully warmed.

A couple years ago I changed my water pump to the INTL pump with filter, and 203 T-Stat. I added the Isspro EV2 sensor at the avail port on the thermostat neck. In that location the gauge actually reads 203-205,and does fluctuate some depending on acceleration demand. The wiring was protected with the corrugated sheath, and covered in shrink wrap with glue to keep it rigid and hold it's shape, a hole was drilled in the bracket and a fastener was added to keep it there too.

But, why no paint on that Int’l water pump?

I tell my friends I can just stop anytime I want.
