I've swapping a 302 into my 74 E100 to replace the 240 and the engine from the 74 donor van has a mechanical Carter fuel pump that can be taken apart. I assume that this was added as an aftermarket as it looks like nothing in the original 74 factory manual. The diaphragm looks pretty beat. Is it worth trying to rebuild this? If so where would I get a kit? I can post a pic as well. Any help appreciated.
I can't say whether it's worth it, but there are firms selling ethanol tolerant viton diaphragms and rebuild kits for older fuel pumps. Also NOS kits are sometimes available, through DC and Mac's.
I guess it's actually kind of tricky for the average DIYer to replace the diaphragm. And the Carter X isn't one they ordinarily offer kits for? Is that what you have? Check eBay, a couple sellers have a gazillion different kits, with all the springs and gee-gaw innards for not too much money. Write them and ask.
It's not an "X". I've seen that online looks pretty rare. I'd say just a regular Carter although I'm not familar with them. Thanks for the eBay tip I'll try there. I'm in Canada so parts are hard to get up here.
