need help, i have a 98 F150 4.6L. my wipers dont work, interior light only works with head lights on and the chime to tell me i left my lights on does not work. checked all fuses and relays they seem to be fine. everything worked before i just had my trans rebuilt and the mechanic says it has nothing to do with what he did, could this be his fault, what else should i check to determine the problem any ideas would be helpful thanx.
Racerguy thanx for the welcome i have the 4x2, I just tried moving the shifter still no luck. could the interior light and the wipers be the same problem
The only place that I can think of that those things are tied together is the GEM module which is behind the fuse box. It controls lots of different things on the truck such as dome light, wipers, power windows etc.
HomerWinzlow will probably show up here sometime and might have some answers. he does lots of electrical work on these trucks.
Do the power windows work if equipped? Its definitely looking like a GEM module problem, power problem from the battery saver relay possible.
The only thing I have possibly seen that could result from the transmission repair that could cause some GEM problems is a bad transmission range sensor.. or a pinched wiring loom. F150 is notorious for wiring loom burning as well at the exhaust manifold on the passenger side if the loom retainers get broken allowing the loom to drop onto the manifold.
With multiple problems like this a trained professional may be your cheapest diagnositic tool for a quick resolve. You could guess for weeks on something like this. Could even be something totally unrelated like a water leak at the windshield getting into the fuse box.
