Horn issue

Hope someone can help with an issue I’m having. It is probably something simple but I’m having a serious brain cramp. I installed an aftermarket column, used a grant 3196 install kit, and a 3 bolt steering wheel. I followed the install instructions but when I reconnect the battery the horn blows. I have taken it apart multiple times, used google and looked at grants troubleshooting guide. Still can’t solve the issue. Any ideas?

I have no experience with these kits, but if the horn is going off as soon as power is applied the horn is grounded. Looking at the kit instructions I would have to say the Retainer Contactor ring is not seating into the horn cap to hold it off the steering wheel and is just laying free so it is grounded out. The 3 shoulder bolts might be in too far so it won't seat into the cap. At least that is what I see, but as I said I have no experience with these kits.

Is that the grant kit with the chrome horn cap ? If so you did install the spring under the cap ?

Indy Beer, Thanks for the input. I am going to try again and see if I can get it corrected. I contacted Grant and they recommended changing out the pin.

Another way to see if it is in the wiring or not...with cap off and making sure ring isn't touching wheel hook up battery and see if horn goes off. If it does than problem is in wiring, if not the ring is making contact with the steering wheel.

it’s definitely the ring touching. I’ll be able to look at it Thursday. Grant called today with a possible solution. Thanks for the help.
