Trying to Verify My Engine

Hi All,
So back a couple months ago I bought this 1965 F250. The guy who I bought it from (who'd had it for decades) swore up and down it has a factory 390ci in it. As we all know, that would be impossible, and the VIN decodes as a 352ci. However, now that the weather is warmer and I have started working on the truck, I see that it has a non-stock C6 trans, and I am thinking that instead of the 352ci that it was born with, that it perhaps has had a 390ci dropped into it at some point. The interesting thing is that the passenger side valve cover has an emission stick on it (barely) that kinda looks like a 302ci sticker. I know it's tough, but can anyone ID this sticker? I looked around the internet but didn't find any 390ci sticker that was orange (they all appear to be white and blue).

Measure the stroke with a wooden dowel thru the spark plug hole.

390?

From the extra pulleys on the crankshaft and water pump it probably came from an automobile also the dark blue paint showing on the valve cover was 66 and up. It looks like there is an external ignition ballast resistor. See if you can find a casting # on the block . As we all know just because if there is a raised 390 showing on the block does not mean that it is.

It doesn't look quite the same but the original 352s had this on the passengers valve cover

The rocker cover has a 1970/ VECI (Vehicle Emission Control Information) Decal. So the rocker cover itself is minimum 1970.

C6 introduced in 1966 Galaxie/LTD/Thunderbird 428, full sized Mercury 410 (Parklane) & 428 and Lincoln 462. Not installed in F100/350 360/390 until 1968.

1965/66 FE pent roof shaped valve covers are plain. 1967/76 FE pent roof valve covers have Powered by Ford embossed on them.

My 1965 F100 352 had painted gold pent roof valve covers with no decal on them. Truck was assembled (1/1965 - San Jose) and sold new in CA with the mandatory PCV System.

1958/64 FE valve covers are rounded without holes for oil cap/smog valve, have an oil fill tube at the right front of the engine.

1961/64 with PCV: Smog valve threads into a boss on the intake manifold in front of the carb.

That decal on air cleaner not valve cover. At least of all the original ones I have seen no decal on valve cleaner. Possible California may have been different. Although my '66 Ranger 352 was california DSO and it was on Air Cleaner

If you check all the casting numbers and date codes you should be able to determine better at least exact year, month then check the stroke for Cu In

Definitely have seen some variations with these things. I've seen it on the valve cover quite often.

Here's my valve covers. The few original 1966 I've touched didn't use a sticker but silk screened it on. You can see Dennis Carpenter lists that decal as 1960-1965 F-Series. Must have been cheaper to just silk screen it than to slap on a decal - and maybe held up better? Who knows. Dimensions are slightly different on the silk screen than the decals.

appears to be no rhyme or reason to the stickers. None of my AZ trucks had them. Will have to look at pics of CA F100 could just be memory loss.

those stickers could easily have been added at some point but who knows.

The reproduced hood hinges are made in Brazil and have a zinc dichromate coating. Everybody selling them gets them from the same source. They are a very accurate reproduction and work very well - I measured the metal thickness with a caliper and they are the same as original, however the finish will definitely stand out if one wishes to have an original restoration look. Depending on vendor and sales events they run between 65-95 bucks each.
