Plug wires..
I will be replacing my plug wires in my 90 F-150 300-6. I was looking at MSD 8.5mm Super Conductor wire set, basically because they only have 50 ohms resistance per ft. But of course they cost $60. Does anybody have any recommendations or past experience with high performance plug wires? Which brands do you guys recommend? I already have the MSD 6AL and Blaster Coil installed, and plan to get the Holley TFI Module, so better wires are kinda needed. I did have some Accell 8.8's, but they were off a used 302, and there didn't seem to be enough RFI suppression.
Thanks

From what I read they are one of the best wire sets around. Jacobs has a nice set with ceramic caps that sell for about $150 a set, but they are gauranteed for life!! I think I read something about wires from Magnacor or something similar in the past few days (never heard of them before), but a lot of the racers use them and they have some great things to say about them. I don't think you can go wrong with the MSD 8.5s. I wish I had a set on mine.

There's a company called Nology down here near SD that's really into high power ignition components.

The "hotwires" piqued my interest, but at $350 a set I think I'll wait on those

Just checked my Summit catalog, they don't list any for I-6. They list direct replacement sets for 302,351,429, and 460. They also have a universal V-6 and V-8 set in blue. The others come in red or blue. They are Ford Racing and not Ford Motorsport as I said before. If interested, their # is 1-800-230-3030. If you had wires off a 302 on before maybe you could try these, you already know how they will fit.

Like you, I've started upgrading my truck with better ignition parts. I currently have the TFI Module installed. Ordering the 6A MSD6200 box, MSD32199 wires 8.5 and pig tail MSD8874 to hook box to coil. I've had nothing but excellent service with MSD products and already have the 6AL, Blaster Coil, MSD 8582 Distributor on my 69 Stang. 3 years without a hitch. I don't think you would go wrong using MSD. If not, the factory Motorcraft/Motorsport wires would be my next pick. You said you already have the 6AL box? How's it working.
The saying goes, you get what you pay for, and I've found you don't skimp on something you've got to depend on to get you where you want to go!!
My opinion on Jacobs products would be NOT to buy them. They are not worth the money. Had a personal friend who had (I said had) the Ultra Team Pack and had nothing but trouble with it. There are some posted messages here by some who had the same results. I personally think they are JUNK! I'm sure this will bring on a rash of response's but thats my opinion.
I think Crane makes a good box setup too. Not sure if they have wires available yet though.

I have the MSD connector for the coil too, it made the installation a lot easier. Plus it gives me a way to bypass the 6AL if anything should happen. I'm very happy with the 6AL, it gave that 300 some more RPM's and power through the range. Not to mention a little more responsiveness. The rev limiter also makes it easier for me to let someone borrow my truck. I always assume they don't know the RPM range of the 300, but it now stops at 3500. The hardest part was finding a spot to mount it.
As for the wires, not many companies make a custom set for the 300. I just use a set for a 302, and pick the lengths that best match the distances. Then I have two spare wires just in case something happens. I figured the MSD Super Conductor Wires will complement my other MSD accesories quite well. Not to mention that RED is quickly becoming a common color under my hood.
Summit is a great place. I'm only three hours from Reno NV, which is where one of their warehouses is. So I usually get my orders the next day.
You mentioned you had the Holley TFI module. How's that working out?

I am about to do the same for my truck. I want to gradually upgrade my ignition system...except, i don't know all the parts that complete the ignition system. I want to start with the easiest which are the plugs and wires, then the distributor. I don't know all this stuff about coils, and boxes and whatever. So can anyone put the piecies of the puzzle together for me? Also, for those of you who have a complete, or nearly complete ignition system, how much do you think it would cost all together for a complete upgrade? 1993 F150 I6 auto.

I don't have the Holley TFI module. Its not available for my application yet. I have the MSD 8227 Coil. It works with stock TFI Ignitions. I'm going to try the Holley Module on my 88 soon.
Looking to upgrade with 8.5 wires and 6A box in a week or so on my truck.
Sorry for the confusion.

Right, the 8227 coil is a direct stock replacement. Which is exactly why I choose it. And I also used the 8874 to connect the 8227 and 6AL together.
The hardest part of my setup will be finding a distirbutor cap and rotor that's high performance as well. My current one has brass connectors, but I think it's made by Borg Warner or something.

I have recently purchased a new coil, computer and plug wires for my 1985 F250 4x4 351w. It was about $600 canadian from Jacobs Ignitions (website is www.jacobselectronics.com) I suggest this too people if you drive on long trips or just into, I have noticed a slight difference in fuel economy and I really big difference in start ups warm and cold. you can buy the wires separtly but if you can afford it I would suggest the whole system. I hope this helps.

The Nology wires look likr they would be excellent, but they won't work with a multi-spark ignition. The Nology wires have capacitors built into the wires and are designed to throw a very hot spark over a very short duration (different philosophy than MSD), so you can really gain some power from them, but you have to have the timing set right on for maximum performance.

silk,
So then I guess it's really multiple smaller sparks or one big one, Right? which one would be better then for a lower rpm power gain, the Nology principle or the MSD one? after purchase of a module and other ignition parts I suppose they would cost the same since one is just a set of wires whereas the other is a whole system. Just wondering where i should put my money.

I have never tried the Nology wires, but I have talked to them because I've consider running their wires on my Nissan pure stock 4 cylinder at the local oval track. I can't run an MSD in the class since aftermarket ignitions are against the rules. The MSD I can vouch for and it works great. I think it cleans up a lot of other timing issues because of the intensity of the spark and the duration of the spark. You'll get a quick response and quicker starts with the MSD and I love the setup. Next on the agenda is to replace my distributor with an MSD and my wires with MSD. I also added the adjustable timer and it is great. I retard the timing to 6-8 degrees when I'm towing the racing car, and advance it to 15-16 degrees for street driving.
