Are these wrong ones for my F-250, 1973? Not sure if I have the original steel rims but the caps are insanely hard to get on. And when I finally get them on, they just pop of after a couple of 100 meters....

No markings on the rims that I could see. But the mesurments from original are exactely the same.
Any suggestions on how to make them fit? Got the truck with 2 of the hubcaps already mounted, got a hold of 3 used ones from a collector. Cant get them to fit the front without using brute force....and as said, they wont stay on....
I really wanna use these caps. Wanting to restore them and the rim....
How are you trying to install them ? sometimes you have to use a rubber hammer they can go on hard. sanding the pain off the back of the bumps can help a little too.
You have 1 there that's not worth trying to save. I'd get on ebay and get a couple more that are in better shape they're not that hard to find or expensive. get them buffed up and repainted and they'll look sharp .

Yupp. I got 1 for free when I was lucky and found them on a Norwegian salesite. Only need 2 since backwheels already have caps mounted.
(Picture is rear tires)
Putting the front ones is a hazzle. Have to lie down and kick them with brute force(having wintershoes-rubber sole). One side gave a fight for 15 min, and the other yes, filed the top of the rimhump down a little and used grease. Came on after 1/2 hour. But as I mentioned, the just pop off again after a couple of 100 meters. Seems they dont get seated correctly...
Took the rear ones off and mesured them with the ”new” front ones, the are exactely the same. Maybe I need a heavy rubber mallet? But should they really be this hard to get on?
Buying from ebay isnt that cheap for us in Norway anymore. You can double the saleprice and then some more(taxes, customs and shipping have become insane last year). Makes me sad when I realized this this winter. But most parts on this truck is good, old rugged steelcomponents. Just take them off, blast or clean, paint and they are all good Love these old american trucks that way
Maybe you know it, but there is a bit of a method for installing them. you hook the lip on 2 of the bumps on the wheel and then while holding a little pressure on the cap you pop the edge of the cap over the other bumps with a heavy mallet. assuming your hand won't do it.
I image it is tough being in another country, sometimes it's bad enough getting parts when they're next door.

Yes sir, that’s how Im trying to do it. Doesnt make any sense that it should be this hard. But I will go look for a mallet tomorrow, might be the answer here.
Btw. From factory, which colour are the steel rims? Is it this wimbeldonwhite ish? Seen some black ones on the web, but that doesnt look very good at all. Going to refurbish the caps and repaint the center background black.
Almost fell off the chair when the guys at Carpenters wanted 85$ just in shipping for ONE small part for my steeringwheel Looked around and got it down to 48$ from another. Ended up paying 90$ for it, delivered, for a part costing 95$. Made a total of 185$....
My dad bought 1 or2 new Fords every year for the ranch when I was a kid and all of them had argent silver wheels. until 1977 or 1978 when they went to white. maybe there were white wheels earlier but we never had any.
If you do paint them silver be sure to get the right silver or they'll look stupid. that's not as easy as it sounds. I'm narrowing it down but I haven't found the exact match yet.
Sorry, but I struck out! I have actual color chips, Domestic & Imports, from 2020 all the way back to 1979 and color names (no chip) for most cars/trucks into the 50s maybe even older.. Exterior colors , interior colors, some stripe colors and their paint codes for 73-79 (again ,no actual color chips) were listed but no accent info which would given the wheel paint code & mix numbers. I'll keep poking around. maybe I can come up with more info.
There is a silver called Silver Mist used by AGCO on their newer manufacture tractor wheels. This include Massey and Challenger. it looks to be a dead match for the original rear step bumpers . on the wheels though I kind of remember them being more of a steel gray but I'm not sure. I had a pile of them we took off over the years because they were split rim and they all got scrapped. if anyone has a picture of original paint that's not too faded that would be nice.
