Lokar shifter length.

Hi all. I have a 51 F1 and I am in the process of ordering a transmission mount/floor shifter for my C6. I am undecided on the length and shape of the shifter to use to avoid hitting the dash or bench seat. If you could post some pics of your shifter with a short description of particulars it would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I bought a locar shifter for my 51 f1. I believe it's a 36 inch shifter and bought it because I thought it would be cool and it was on sale at the time. If I had to do it all over again, I would have bought the next size down (24 or 30 inch) just because I think it would look better in the cab. I am OK with what I have - still is cool - kinda old timy looking.
Hope this helps
Dan

I installed the shorter shaft.... was concerned about the longer one hitting the dash.

How long is yours moejr ? Both look great but looks wise for me about halfway between would be nice . Mine is a 53 so a little different but seems there are very little if any options other than lokar and for us up here that is a very expensive option .

16" ..... not sure but I think it's the shortest one available for the C4, And yes they are kinda "pricey $$".

I put the 23 inch double bend in my pickup, it's not all about the money Ted, it's the looks

Awesome. Thank you for the pictures. I agree with EBEAR, they both look great. I am stuck between the 23" Nostalgia S bend and the 16" like moejr has. They are not cheap for us up here but I think it is worth it

Back a loooong time ago in the 70's I used a shifter from a Pinto when I did the first engine, Trany swap in my 49, it worked well and was cheap money. Some things to think about when choosing a shifter....... mounting location, shaft length, gear Indicator with lamp and cost. My Locar shifter does not have a gear indicator and adding one is more $$ than I want to spend at the moment.

Thanks moejr. I hadn't thought about the gear indicator. Do you find that you need or miss it?

I bought their Nostalgia shifter. I can get drive and second but the shifter hits the seat so I cannot get 1st. I bought a shorter shifter, I think it's a 16" but to get it in requires a lot more than unscrewing the long one so I am just living with it. I do have the shorter shifter if you are interested.

Later!
Mr. Ed

I didn't give it much though when I ordered the Lokar unit, was thinking more of shaft length and hitting the dash. Lokar make one that mounts on the dash or shifter boot.

I've looked at the Lokar shifters as well. I don't like that they do not come with a shift indicator. And the indicators they offer are kind of cheap looking.

Do the Lokar shifters come with back-up light and neutral safety switches? And do they have "detents" like a stock shifter? You know, for example, so you cannot easily move the shifter from drive to reverse. In catalogs they look like a simple lever setup with a lot of adjustable mounting brackets.
