Good Buy?
im in the market for a solid platform for a camper build. I've been looking for a prices under 8k. I saw this 1983 custom e150 with the 6.9l diesel and low miles? On paper does it appear to be a good buy? The high top and 4x4 are big plusses.

83 was the first year for the 6.9l IDI. The early 6.9l blocks sometimes had trouble cracking near the block heater. Check out the stickies in our IDI forum and consider re-posting there (or maybe the moderators will move the thread):

IMHO, I think that van might be a decent starting point for a project. Especially since it's 4x4 and a diesel (very rare). The owner not willing to let folks test drive it is a BIG negative!
One of our regular members on the IDI forum has a van and an awesome website:https://www.nickpisca.com/diesel/
The biggest hurdle to selling a used vehicle right now is COVID 19. I'm trying to sell my 71 Oldsmobile 98 and just turned down an interested party because of "social distancing." Plus, my local bank has closed their lobby. Be safe.
it started life as a gas engine. and diesel engine was never offered in a 150.
so you have to go on faith that the diesel engine conversion was done properly. plus you also have to have faith the 4X4 conversion was done properly.
$7000 and it needs a steering box? sorry, you can buy a newer better diesel van for less.
