Ok so my belt tensioner bolt broke off in the block mid drive and I had to drive a little less than a mile to get to a safe spot (in my head I thought “oh damn old truck power steering pump broke”) but it turns out my belt flew off and I got my truck really hot. Idk if I really broke it or not but just in case I did what motor and transmission combos will more or less bolt into my 1996 2wd f150 with the 5.0 that I can get a bit more horses from?
See if it will run. If you haven't replaced the belt yet, In it's condition you can still try to start it and see how it sounds. Of course you want to turn if off after it has run for less than a minute. Talking about replacing the trans and motor for more horses is putting the cart before the horse. Sandy

but I’m gonna swap it eventually I was just planning on doing all the suspension and stuff first
If every person ever who popped a belt decided to swap their engine then this forum would be WAY more busy with motor swap threads. Go get a new belt, see if the truck runs. If it does, cool story bro, save up for your fantasy swap. If it doesn't then figure out WHY and if repairable, do that or if not then do your swap.
Yeah if I were you buddy I would try putting on a new belt tensioner and getting your parts hauler moving for your suspension and motor swap plan. You don't want to be sitting on a truck that doesn't move while trying to plan out moving something heavy.
