Question Concerning Lost Title
My son who lives in TN has bought a truck from Las Vegas. The bank in Vegas has lost the title.
In order to get a replacement title, will he have to apply for a lost title through the TN DMV, or the NV DMV?
Thanks!
I would also check with the state he is in, TN, and to see if he needs a title.
Some states you don't unless the car / truck is from out of state but I could be wrong.
Good luck

Most likely the current title holder (hopefully the person you bought it from) will have to;
- get a duplicate title from the DMV.
- Then take it to the bank and have them sign off on the lien.
- Then sign it over to you.
But if you can get them the 3 steps above you are good. If the person on the title is NOT the person you bought it from, then it gets more difficult. You will have to track down the person on the title and get them to do the 3 steps. If this is the current state, that is not good. If the title holder is several owners ago, that is a “jumped” title and not good.
Some states will issue a title, after inspection, that is “marked”. If some claims ownership to it in a period of time (1-2 years???) then you are screwed. If not, then after that specified period of time you can go and get a “clear” title.
Had this happen to a buddy who bought a Mustang shell. Title was from VA and signed over to a guy from MI. Guy who sold it to my buddy was from MN. Jumped title. Ugghhh... My state (North Dakota) said “go fly a kite...cannot title”, since title was not signed over to my buddy. Found title holder in VA, but he was older and very poor. Buddy filled out Virginia forms, talked to title holder on phone and sent money for fees and trouble to title holder. Never heard another word... Guy would not answer phone. Buddy eventually sold car for a “race car” to some people. In North Dakota, cannot even crush car without title, so my buddy was just happy to be rid of it. Lost $1000 in the deal, but chalked it up to his mistake in doing a bad deal.
Talk to your State. Try and find out who current title holder is. If it is the person you bought it from odds are high you can resolve. Otherwise...
