Greetings
I hope this finds everyone healthy in the difficult times.
My truck only has to run a few minutes and the gauge will read hot. I have Fluke 561IR Thermometer. Checking multiple places over the heads, hoses and radiator the hottest temp I read is 191 deg F. That doesn't seem to be hot enough for the gauge to read HOT (I could be wrong). At this point I'm thinking its the temperature sending units. They cost $45 each from Macs. I would like to have something more then " I think" before I spend $100 (plus shipping).
Check the "excess heat switch" (the one with only one wire). The terminal should be grounded until about 212 degF. When it is open, the gauge will go to Hot. Try grounding the wire that goes to it, if the gauge behaves normally, that's your problem.
