I have been a Ford owner since 1985 and bought my first new truck in 1988.
I have always seen Ford (Henry and the Company of today) as innovators and leaders of industry.
Ford of today is always supporting innovation in technology and science, beyond automobiles. They functioned without a government handout 12 years ago unlike other automobile companies.
Since 2008 I purchased two new Ford trucks and a used van for work purposes. Ford makes perfect tools for me to use and these tools allow me to support my family.
While GM is in negotiations with the US government on costs, Ford has started moving in the right direction.
A lot of people trash talk Ford cars and trucks, but they do not realize Ford is a company that does more that build vehicles.
We're all prone to pick and choose stories that fit our own ideas about any one topic or in this case a company. Ford as well as many, many other companies over the years have shown they possess a great ability to conceive, design, build and deliver products that aren't all motor vehicles. I myself find the history of Ford's Willow Run plant during WW II quite impressive so yeah in that sense they've done more than their part to help the USA become and remain a great country.
I buy Ford vans because for the most part they've proven reliable and relatively easy to DIY repairs. I've had no complaints over all---friends how own GM products are equally pleased with their vehicles so more than likely it still circles back to personal preference.
I bought my first Ford ('71 Gran Torino) because I tended to motion sickness. It was so bad in the GM vehicles that I often couldn't ride for a mile without being sick of having to go "sleep it off".
I did out grow that, but I still love my Fords. Haven't bought anything else in my life....
