Building a mean 460

My 91 F350's 460 is getting tired and I'm starting to plan to rebuild the hog. I want to get up into the 350 - 400 hp range and still have a reliable everyday motor that can fire up in all weather conditions, pull a 25,000 pound load and be an everyday driver. What do all of you know about products that I can use to build this engine? Any other websites I can look at? I would appreciate any of the advice you all can give me.

Thanks,

tb

Tirebiter,

There are several posts in the "series 385" conference that'll give you some insight. Let your imagination run.

I took a trip to strokerkits.com and ask a few questions about their 502 cubic inch kit. It's around $1900 and with some cylinder head work, a slight R.V. type cam, and no computer changes, they claim 450 to 500 pounds of torque and 400 to 420 total horsepower. Add in a Banks Power Pack, high flow cat, some ignition upgrades, and them horses in the trailer will need seat belts. For the money, it about the same as a remanufactured block with no modifications. Check it out for yourself.

I looked into this myself and found the best way to get up to the HP you want is to add a supercharger. I was quoted around $5.5K for the supercharger installed and adjusted. For cheaper gains you may want to try to open up the exaust some and add a ram airflow system, I have found the stock systems on the 460 to be a little restrictive.

Building a mean 460

Someday I'm looking into the possibility of rebuilding my dads 1990 460. Not looking for the cost and numbers listed here; but am thinking of milder mods.
Possibly: Sealed rings, higher compression ratio pistons. 3 angle valve job, port and polish and a RV cam.
Would these mods work with the stock computer?
Not trying to race it, but if I rebuild it then I'd like dad no notice extra power performance and maybe even a few extra MPG
