When accelerating, whether gently or more, I've started hearing the sound of rushing air coming from somewhere either under the hood or under the truck. A week or two ago it was barely noticeable and now, you can't miss it. I don't feel any loss of power and my fuel mileage is the same or even a bit better (I have been doing more steady highway driving the last month).
The exhaust system including all fittings seem fine with no holes or loose joints etc. That leads me to suspect something under the hood like a loose ... (insert intake something here)? Any suggestions as to where I should start looking to chase this down. BTW - I do have the MX dongle and the full Torque Pro app on my phone. But I don't know what to monitor for. All suggestions welcome.
Home brew CAC leak detector. 3” PVC plug and a air hose fitting. Put 20PSI on it and listen for the leak. Sounds like a tear in one of your boots.
Should be a step by step in the tech folder.
Thanks Guys. I've read a few threads about this and the homemade CAC thingy. I guess it's time to do some content searching, read a little more and start MacGyvering my tester. Reps sent to Bill Kay.
Mark, the system won't let me thank you with reps so soon after your last helpful post. But I'll say thanks a bunch here!
I feel like a Boost leak you could hear would result in a loss of power. I often find the worm clamps on intake plenums are loose/leaking. These can sound like letting the air out of a balloon slowly - squeaky or like a trumpet, but only at higher boost psi.
Make sure air filter is assembled correctly and not broken/missing parts.
Look at up-pipes where they enter the collector behind turbo. Soot streaks are
indicative of leaks and they need to be replaced/ upgraded.
