This is not an uncommon occurrence for me not being the one who dismanteled the truck . But can someone tell me if there is
a purpose to these indents at the base of the windshield .
Can't tell for sure from the pic but I think that is the "tabs" that help to locate the frost deflector. They were punched up to make a tab that the deflector sort of sets on or they help align the deflector. I am working on sanding my dash now and they are a PIA, because they are easy to sand off if using a power sander, which I have almost done to one. Also they're easy to bend up or down and break off, which maybe what has happened to yours. My dash is a 56- don't know if other years are similar....

They are very similar except the 53-55 are shorter and don't wrap around as much as the 56
Ok thanks guys I have one deflector hanging underneath but its loose and I haven't looked into it yet so I will assume it's just catching on the tabs as there are no screws installed .
No I definitely was not , I wasn't even considering anything on top of the dash . Is that an optional piece or standard because it looks like it would blow pretty good without it ? Thanks John .
Thanks guys I'll do a little local searching to see if there's any here first . Are they normally body color ? With our dollar tanked right now I will be avoiding any US purchases . The mid fifty one would be $ 200 for me .

Yes, they are normally body color. I've seen them chrome, but seems like it might flash your eyes driving in bright sunlight.
