Hey guys,
I got a pretty serious problem with my F150. It will not get out of park. I found out that the brake lights will not light up when I apply them.
This is the story, I started the truck to go to the store and everything was working fine but when I reached a stop sign I saw my ABS light blinking frantically. Usually when this happens all I have to do is turn the truck off and turn it back on again and the light will stop blinking. I turned the truck off and when I started it wouldn't get out of park, now it's disabled at a stop sign down my street. I've tried disconnecting the driveshaft so I could push it back home but with no luck, the bolts are jammed.
I've already checked the fuses and they all looked fine. I don't know what to do and I gotta work tomorrow. Please Help!
It sounds like you might be having some trouble with the axle. Have you pulled the diff cover and check out the gears?? Make sure something isnt jamming them.
Could be just your brake light switch. If it's not working your shift interlock wont disengage.
To get past that just turn the key to the off position, not lock, put the trans in neutral and start the engine.
Cool, got the truck out of park. Now why don't the brake lights work? The ABS light is still blinking like crazy. I don't want to drive the truck w/out brake lights. Where is the brake switch located?
At your foot brake is a switch. It has a wire that goes to it. This wire is broken or lost contact. This wire/ switch serves 2 functions. One is to light up the brake lights, the other is to release the gear lever lockout device. Open the door, crawl on your back, and look for that switch. Its pretty simple.

I saw that switch last night when I was digging through the fuses. I unplugged it and cleaned it but with no success. Do you recommend replace it or what?
Check to see if you have voltage to one of the two wires going to the switch, if so, then use an ohm meter, hook it to both of the terminals on the switch with the plug unhooked, then push the pedal down and see if you get continuity, if so, then the switch is good and you have other issues.
Did you check all of the fuses under the hood on the drivers side in the distribution block too?
Jimmy
Yes, I checked all the fuses in the cab, and under the hood, but not they fuses related to the engine block, I didn't think it was necessary. I will check those out just for good measurement though. Another problem I have is that I do not have an ohm meter.
I'm going to try and get a mechanic to stop by tonight and check it out.
Well, if the lights would stay on all of the time, then you would know that the switch was bad.
My boss bought a new Escape and the brake light switch failed the next day, he bouth it and drove it out of state the next day for his kids ball tournament and while down there it killed that battery so bad that it wouldn't even take a charge and he had to buy a new battery to get home. His stuck on all of the time even though the plunger moved like it should. These new ones aren't adjustable like the old ones used to be.

We are not talking the final fix of course. But it sure would be nicer to have the brakelights on and be able to drive the truck home and take it from there, wouldn't it?
The mechanic told me that the switch is broken. I guess i need to replace it. Goin' to search for that part today, anyone know where they might sell it?
