Hello group. I have a probably already answered question. Can't seem to find the form for it. I have a 2002 Ford E150 , and I was looking to do. A brake upgrade I know that in year 2008. They beefed up the brake package For this vehicle And I was wondering What can I use from the 2008 model to the 2002 model What would I need to make this work? Trying to make this a non hauler performance van And just trying to think outside the box. To get the best all-around performance. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated
I've done what's become known as the 2008 brake upgrade but it applies to the E250's---I'm not sure it would apply to the E150 as there might be differences in the spindles and master cylinder that'd make the larger '08 calipers and rotors incompatible.
I did contribute a write-up or how-to on this listing parts used along with before and after photos. I switched from PhotoBucket some time ago so the original photos no longer display here on FTE. Because there was little to no interest in that project I've never edited the post to restore the images.
I did it with my '07 E350.
Unless you are running a 16" wheel, as on the E250/350, O dont think the rims will clear the rims.
The wheel diameter is indeed very important--something I overlooked in my reply--good catch Wiskey VI!
I've updated the original post and restored lost photos about doing this swap on my 2003 E250--its here: 2008 E250 Brake Upgrade Photos there show calipers and rotors loosely fitted to a stock 16" bare wheel as well as images of the fully assembled brake system.
Very nice write up!
I did find out while doing mine, that the caliper bolts for the old -re 08 are a different part number from the the newer style, the bolts are the same.
Also, they must have refined rim manufacturing as I had to grind a bit of the caliper contour, towards the bottom, as it rubbed on low spots on thenner dia of the rims.
They didn't rub all the way around.
It was as though they were a bit out of round. Maybe the tolerances were a bit out at manufacturing.
I just ground the calipers a bit at the bottom, where the cast flashing was and it fixed it.
