I have a problem with the brakes on my 2003 E350. If the van sits overnight the right rear brake locks up when I go to pull out. I have to back up and pull forward a few times to get it to unlock. I pulled the wheel off and every thing is fine (No binding ) The van sat for about a year before I bought it. The only thing I can think of is a piston is hanging up. Any ideas or suggestions ???
Not sure why just one side would do that. I had plenty of trouble with my 2006 E350 during the first 50,000 or so miles on both sides. I had it in to dealer every few months for calipers hanging up over over half a dozen times.
Told them several times to lube the pins and brakes always worked fine for a while upon return. Finally I had had enough (after 3 sets of pads and a new pair of rotors, all ruined by hanging calipers).
So I took them off myself, lubed the pins with a high quality high-temp grease, re-installed, and no trouble since...it's been a year+ now.
I don't know what the dealer did or whether there is a recommended procedure, but my fix worked. I have read that anti-seize is the recommended fix.
It isn't a highly technical procedure and may violate all the "rules", but it worked for me. I would recommend having a heavy hunk of wire available to hang the caliper from while fooling around, so it doesn't have to hang from the hose.
Thanks for the reply Van, I did exactly what you did and it didn't help. I had a Chevy Dually that did the same thing but that seemed to do it more when it was damp outside. Glad to hear I'm not alone with this problem.
