My dome light and other upper lights stay on after I close the door and even after I lock them manually. They only go out if I lock the EX with the remote. This does not seem normal. Am I missing something?
More than likely just a bad switch. They are in the bottom of the door latch. You can spray penetrating oil in them and it might help. You could take them out and clean them or replace them.
It happens when exiting either the drivers or passenger side. I think it's more than a door switch then.
Maybe, but that's where I would start. 95% of the time the problem is in the door switches. They can be tested. I believe in the service manual you test them first, then into the harness if they are good.
Not sure if the second video tranfers to the EX or not as far as using a scan tool. The paper clip works to test them though. Left side are different part than right side.
You have waited for the door open delay to expire?
So you exit, or open and shut the drivers door, and after waiting about 25 seconds the lights don't go off?
Locking with the remote fob, and or the keyless pad will extinguish the lights immediately.
Things sound normal.
I added a PDF from the 2001 manual, although you are a 2002 with the newer electronics platform, I'm guessing the function of the courtesy lights are still the same.

.
No even after waiting a minute the lights stay on. Only locking with the fob extinguishes the lights. I'll read over the pdf.
Thanks.
I could be wrong but since the lights turned off with your key fob, I had thought the door ajar switches are probably ok, cause the lights would stay on otherwise.
I would think the switches are OK as well since they trigger the lights to go on when opening a door. The GEM grounding issue may be at the root of the problem. Fixing this is not too high on my list of priorities now. If the lights would not go off at all, then I would dig a bit deeper.
