1996 Speed Density 351 with E4OD
i have a 1996 F350 that has a 351 speed density engine with E4OD transmission. I would like to swap this engine/ trans into my 49 F1 pickup. I will be running a thunderbird IRS in the 49, so I currently have no way of installing a variable speed sensor that the current sterling rear end has in the F350. The E4OD trans has no speed sensor gear on the tail shaft. Is there any kind of aftermarket sensor that I can use to pick up driveshaft speed so the trans will function properly?
if I can’t make this work properly, I would like to keep the 351 engine with the stock engine management system, and revert back to a C4 or earlier AOD trans that does not use the PCM to run it. How integrated is the harness on the 96-will I have to modify the harness and/or reflash the PCM to run the engine only? The 96 truck does not have a PATS system. This is somewhat of a budget build, so I’m not interested in an aftermarket harness if I can avoid it.
