Hey all. The gas tank with the eec port on top was sent to me by mistake. Can the eec port be plugged since the filler neck also has a vent tube next to it? What can I do to not have to send it back and wait for the correct tank?
Hey all. The gas tank with the eec port on top was sent to me by mistake. Can the Evap/Em port be plugged since the filler neck also has a vent tube next to it? What can I do to not have to send it back and wait for the correct tank?
Evaporative Emission system abbreviated Evap/Em
EEC = Electronic Engine Control system - on-board computer. No Ford truck has this until the 1980's.
The Evap/Em tank has a hole in it adjacent to the sending unit for the fuel vapor valve. This valve and its o-ring were not furnished with the tank.
You're right. The hole is 1 3/8 inch. I know theres an expansion plug that size. It'll barely fit relaxed. So when I tighten the nut, itll expand even more.
I would be wary of using a rubber expansion plug. Over time the rubber will degrade/crumble/dry rot and fall in the tank eventually letting air, water, dirt etc... in.
I think what is being mentioned for correct nipple placement is not L or R on tank, but front to back.
On our 78 the fill nipple is towards the front of the truck and the vent nipple is towards the back.
For your new tank, they are switched. If your truck doesn't match, you'll have to cross the vent hose over or under the filler hose. There is not a lot of room to do that.
Vent hose is just behind (towards the rear truck) the filler hose. Your new tank won't match this layout.
We received the same tank for my son's truck and didn't have the valve so I just cleaned the paint off and cut a piece of metal to cover the hole and soldered it up, then used Eastwood tank liner inside and out. worked great and no leaks. Just so ya know I line ALL tanks anymore with the crap they pass off for gas anymore I feel it's cheap insurance against corrosion.
