I just put in a 50 cal stubby antenna and my reception is worse then before, has anyone done anything to improve there radio reception while still using a stubby antenna?
There's a reason why your factory antenna is 2.5-3' long...to collect a signal....going shorter goes in the opposite direction ( less reception)...only for looks.
I use XM radio so it doesn't matter if I use a stubby for looks

yeah I totally understand the concept of how an antenna works, my problem is that when I park it in my garage it scrapes me door and it is leaving marks so I went with a stubby antenna for that reason, my problem is how to get my reception back with a stubby antenna, I have seen some people install a HD digital antenna to improve the reception but thank you for explaining how a antenna works!!

Yep...this. I got a shorter, but still OEM looking antenna. Mine is 21" long so I can get under my carport without whacking the overhead ribs. It still picks up the stations I get, but I also have XM/Sirius, so I never listen to the "radio".

On the 2017 I previously had I just cut down the stock antenna to a height that fit under my garage door. Factory look with no noticeable reception loss.
I pulled the ball off the top of the antenna, snipped the antenna and epoxied the ball back on. It went through many a car wash after that with no problems.
With my current 2019 I've just let the antenna hit the garage door frame for now. It's not a priority.

The only way to improve your reception is to get a longer antenna.
I put a 13” on mine and tested it and it worked fine for my local stations. While I am not trying to pick up stations from the next town over, I usually listen to the music on my iPhone or satellite. Kind of hard to see it against the backdrop of the 02 but this gives you an idea of what it looks like
I had the stubby 50 cal on my last truck
This time around I went a different route and have way better reception. Still picks up stations 30 miles away. It's a 6" from Amazon
