Another Speedometer gear Question

Original rear end gear was 2.72 with a Dana 44

New rear gear is 3.5 in a 9 inch

I swapped the trans as well from the original C6 to another C6 from a 77 Econoline. The trans tag is missing on the 77 C6 otherwise I would give out that info to decode as well.

I have the original Type 2 (Long Snout) 18T GRAY DRIVEN gear on there and the speedo is about 15-20 MPH off
Can I use a Type 2a as well?

Tire Size is 28 inch in diameter or a 275/60/15 with 720 RPM

Did I miss any info?

Thanks

There is a site that specializes in cable ends and adapters. I had their web address for a while, but now it's gone. That site explained the diff. color speedo gears, and they had them all. The less teeth the gear has, the faster your speedo reads. You can also find the gears on ebay.

Do you know if the type 2 and 2a are interchangeable?

TYPES 1 - 2 - 2A = Teeth run this-away: /////

TYPE 2B = Teeth run that-away: \\\\\

Nylon speedometer DRIVEN gears are available with 16 thru 21 teeth, same gears have been used since 1960, are available from Ford and auto parts stores

Good to know that they are interchangeable.

Do you know why they have different snout lengths?

DRIVEN gears do not interchange due to how the teeth are orientated.

You cannot use a gear with teeth like this: /////in place of gear with teeth like that: \\\\\

I was referring to the type 2 and 2a are interchangeable due to their tooth orientation if I understand you correctly. I understand that the 2b are not the same because they have the opposite tooth orientation.
