This is all new to me with my first diesel. I'm up in Ontario Canada. Is opti-lube xl good for all year long? Or is it best to use the winter blend during the cold months?
None. Waste of money. I suggest you read what your owners manual says about using fuel additives and warranty claims.
If you plan on keeping a diesel beyond the warranty period I would use a lube. Do a little a little research on fuel lubricity-SCAR rating- for here in the USA and over in Europe. Our fuel doesn’t lubricate as well. HPFP will fail prematurely on US diesel but it will likely be beyond the warranty period, hence Ford is not concerned about the design flaw.
Just be advised, opti-lube is not an emulsifier , so water will stay in form and you would be relying on your water separator to collect it and alert you so you can drain it.
thefirst question folks ask when they get told you need a new fuel system due to water contamination is “ why didn’t my water separator contain the fuel and why didn’t the computer alert me that I have water in my fuel system?
Cummins guys have been running ashless 2 stroke oil for years. Walmart sell it by the gallon super cheap. However, the single best lube you can use is bio diesel.but its not always available and isn't so great in super cold weather✌
I been using Archoil for years with no complaints. Never get water when I drain fuel filter between changes and it actually picked up a little over a mile per gallon on mpg. I have no reason not to use it.

The separator is designed to separate water from diesel.
Optilube and other demulsifiers help separate the water from the diesel even more. . All the owner has to do is drain it.
I drain mine at least once a month.
Emulsifiers on the other hand typically contain alcohol and are no no

Soooo... am I reading where you think this is a good thing? Or are you saying a bad thing? Too much info out here and too many schools of thought so I get confused easily

I really don’t know if a emulsified is good or de-emulsified is good.
my lack of confidence is probably related to the questionable efficiency of the water seperators and the questionable alert that you have water in your seperators and the fact that I have never drained any water from any of the 3 trucks that had seperators.
the good news is that the 2020 model will have a new design seperator...maybe that one will a tuLly work.
