I have a 91 Bronco with a 351. When i start it up the idles goes up around 1500 and it doesn't go back down. i also notice that the check engine light is on. Sometimes the idle goes up and down a lot and it almost wants to die. But when the check engine light goes off it goes back to normal idle and it runs fine. Now my check engines stay on and it doesn't go off. I could smell a lot of fuel burning. When i put it in drive, the truck seems to have a lack of power. The truck barely moves foward when i have the gas pedal pressed pretty far. Even at high idle my truck barely moves. So far i have the throttle body and tps sensor replaced. also the fuel pump, fuel regulator and fuel filter. It feels like it running on 2 cylinders. It feels really weak. I have no clue what might cause this.
i had the same truck, with similar sounding problem. trouble turned out to be a bad intake manifold gasket.word to the wise,if this is the case.get a high quality gasketset. either go motorcraft,or napa top of.the line. tried saving a few bucks with elcheapo autozone set, got to redo the job 5000 miles later.
Would a busted intake gasket cause the check engine light to go on. also how would a gasket leak cause the truck to lose that much power that it causes the truck to barely go anywhere
have you checked your plug wires and plugs. you might try and start the rig at night and look under the hood for any plug wires arching. this will cause similar problems to what your talking about. may be time for tune up to
when the gasket went, there was around 1.5 inches gone. this allowed enough oil,and antifreeze to go down the throat that it fouled two plugs instantly. this tripped the light, and stopped the beast from mooving under its own power.
you can check for an intake gasket leak by taking some carb cleaner and spraying it around the edges of the intake manifold. if you have a leak it will cause the engine to sputter and shake like its all of a sudden having a hard time breathing.
