Hello all I am in need of some help. I have a 92 f350 4x4 460 v8 automatic plow truck that suddenly will not go into any gear. The shifter will shift through the various gears but when I give any gas nothing happens. I am 99 percent sure the tranny went out. Also I am 99 percent sure it is a c6 transmission based off the pan. My issue is when I search for this transmission online I get 2 versions of the c6 ID F2TP-YA and w/o F2TP-YA. I have searched the transmission and can not find a tag. Does anyone know if there is a way to tell which of these 2 it is? What is the difference?
Yes that image is how I verified it is the c6. There appears to possibly be 2 versions of c6's in this year truck. The f2tp-ya and not f2tp-ya i just dont know how to tell those apart or what the difference is.
What happened is my wife was plowing a small amount of snow and she suddenly said it felt like she was loosing power and had to give it a bunch of gas to go anywhere so she stopped and put into park and apparently turned the vehicle off and called me. I came down to the truck started it and shifted into drive and give a little gas and nothing happens. Give it more gas nothing happens, I tried all of the gears and nothing happens other than the engine revving up. At this point i did check the transmission oil I do not remember for sure if the engine was one or not but I do remember that it was showing a bit about full actually the oil was dark not light reddish like transmission oil is normally. We decided to try to tow it up to the house but when we tried we were unable to move more than a few feet because all the wheels where locked up and we were basically dragging the thing. The truck was in 4 wheel low when all this went down. I am not sure if when she put into park the transmission shifted one last time into park or what would cause the wheels to be locked. I have worked on vehicles a bit in my life but never done anything with transmissions so I am not 100% sure that is the problem.
Mainly I am wondering if you think this is the issue and if you know what the difference between the F2TP-YA identification and the non F2TP-YA identification c6's. Someone at a salvage yard thought it had to do with the speedometer. I guess if this is the case and i am not at all concerned with this plow truck having a speedometer would they then be completely interchangeable?

So you continued to drag the truck with all fours tires locked up? It sounds like the drivetrain was binding up. Did you try putting the transfer case in neutral to move it?
i would imagine the difference is with or without speedometer port in the tailshaft of the trans. since you have a 92, you have a VSS driven speedometer and no port in the trans. but either will work. if they give you a trans with speedometer port in the tailshaft, just don't use it.
