Idler pulley question

Hello all, it seems as if I might be missing an idler pulley on my 04 e350 5.4. Is this normal? I thought I recalled hearing about this years back that it is not necessary? Ive searched on here but could not find anything on this. The pulley is to the right of the water pump.

I believe my 2000 E250 w/5.4 has the idler pully whereas my 2003 & 2005 with same motor does not. It probably isn't necessary if you have the correct length belt and its routed properly.

Follow this link to see what's supposedly stock for your make, year and engine: Serpentine Belt Diagrams

FWIW that site shows my 2000 without the idler yet the actual truck does have one---use it knowing it might not be 100% accurate every time. It's entirely possible with or without A/C contributes to all this as there are different listings for that option.
