Anyone hard wired in a Dash Cam by tying into the overhead switches or lights ?

No. I use the 12v plug on the bottom of the center console to power my camera. When you turn the truck on the camera records automatically. When you turn truck off, the 12v plug is still hot for a certain amount of time and the camera still records until the 12v plug turns off. I wouldn't waste a switch on a dash camera.

I used switch 2 on the upfitter switches, ran the power wire up the A pillar and caress the headliner. really easy.

Ran mine under the headliner then inside the rubber gasket down the pillar on the passenger side. There’s a 12VDC, 5 amp stub in the customer access bundle that’s hot whenever the truck is running. Grounded it to a nearby body lug.

If you want the ability to easily switch on and off your camera, I guess an upfitter switch is an option but I hardwired to the fuse box in the passenger foot panel using micro2 fuse taps (one tap for parking mode “always hot” and one tap for ignition on). There are some YouTube videos that show how to hide the cable and make the connections (search for F-150 dash cam installs. The cabin is the same but there are more vids for F150 which is helpful). The dash cam I use has its own power switch so it frees up the upfitters for other things.

Same for me ! I don't have the upfitters but even if I did I would not use them for a dashcam. If you want it off , turn it off via the cam. Killing it via the upfitters is not a good idea because someday you might forget it , bump it by accident or a kid might play with them.... And that's probably the day that something will happen that you wished you had your dashcam

Which bundle is that? I used the fuses in the kick panel, which was kind of a pain. The add-a-fuse never quite fit like I wanted it to.

Behind the kick panel in the same 22 pin pigtail that has the high idle resistor circuit in it. It’s pin#2, green w/ orange stripe. The wire is stubbed out with heat shrink on it just waiting for you to splice on.

Is that the same bundle that has a few wires labelled "PTO"? I saw that bundle and thought some of the wires might be useful.

Yup, same one. The pigtail pops out for easy splicing and then you can just plug it back in. Made it easy to solder in the high idle resistor on the bench!

I just used a couple fuse add-a-wire adapters and plugged them into the fuse panel on the passengers side behind the panel. Ran the wires, tucked into the headliner, down the A-Pillar and right to the box. Whole thing took 20 minutes. One wire for "always on" and the other for "ignition switch on"

With regard to the question posed by the OP, I don't think you would want to try to tie into the wires in the overhead (upfitter) switches themselves. They're just a small wire that powers a relay in the engine compartment, correct?

To specifically answer the OP’s question...I have recently hardwired my dash cam directly to the upfitter AUX 6. I have a BlackVue DR900s, which has the front and rear camera. I also purchased the BlackVue power magic pro, which I have set to automatically shut off the power if/when the battery power gets below 12V. You can also do a time delay so there isn’t much worry about draining the battery if the switch was left on.

I decided to use AUX 6 because 5 & 6 can be configured to be on all the time even with the key off. Meaning, the camera can always have power if the switch is on. If I ever have an alternate need for the for AUX 6 I’ll just figure out something different then. Not something I see happening soon.

The real issue is getting from the upfitter wires to the interior of the cabin. Ford made the pass through wires a real PITA on the 2020’s. I decided to run straight from under the hood into the cabin.

Let me know if you have questions.

Hardwired my Thinkware F800Pro into the passenger foot well fuse box... but I also installed a Cellink Neo battery under the passenger seat so the front/back dash cams aren't drawing off the truck battery. It was very easy to hide the wires in the headliner, pull the door seal and come down the passenger A pillar and into the fuse box area (the pass through wires are also there if needed).
