Has anyone found out what is causing this knock by any chance? If so, what is the fix? Going to the dealer tomorrow to see if I can duplicate this for them and looking for any help to point them in the right direction.

I caved and started running 93. Runs like a different truck and the increase in performance (and lack of detonation) are worth the additional cost difference.

Have you tried running premium?
No, we haven’t. Point about that is that the truck isn’t spec’d to specifically run on premium, regular, 87 Octane is supposed to be all that it requires according to Ford. If it had required that we wouldn’t have purchased it in the first place.
Something is definitely wrong if the knock sensor isn’t doing it’s job and keeping this from happening and it will cause long term damage to the pistons if it continues.

Knock sensors and pulling timing can only do so much when you're running 12:1 compression. Can it run 87? Sure, but even in the manual it states it may knock.
I swore against running premium (see posts 13&15 from last year) then tried it. Feels like a different truck - hesitation is gone and it holds gear better at part throttle tip-in.
Good luck and hope you find the best outcome. Aside from throwing PCM updates at it, there's not much the dealer can do.
Our 2015 3.5L EcoBoost runs noticeably different on high octane, although it doesn't run "bad" on regular. Most of the time, we run regular, but switch to premium when we're towing our TT. After we finish towing, I do notice better power and better mileage until we burn off the remaining premium fuel in the tank.

Actually, if you re-read the manual, it recommends the higher octane but says you can use 87. Try the higher octane, you will like it.
