After test drives at my Ford dealer comparing the EB to the 5.0 I bought the 5.0.
Reading the numerous opinions on this forum helped my decision but the test drive sealed the deal.
Also, my opinion on future modification potential. The EB is already TC'd to achieve it's performance but the 5.0 has lots of potential to push horsepower to crazy levels!
Here's my new F150, "Sterling Gray" XLT 4x4, Supercab, 145" wb, 5.0 L, 3.55 locker, 6 speed auto.
Bought an Ecoboost F150 new and after a year or so of driving it, he traded it in on a 2012 5.0 F150. He felt it made better power than the Ecoboost and seemed to get up and go better.
My new 12 with the 5.0 and 3.73 gears is plenty power for me, I wont even touch aftermarket parts, as there is just no need IMO.... I too went in thinking ecoboost and after I drove them I really didnt see that much difference for the 1100 dollars and the few scattered problems led me to the v8 and it has done nothing but impressed me! COngrats on the new rig......
You'll love it. I bought one because I wasn't towing anymore. As far as power, yes, put a blower on it and there's not a tuned EB that will get near it. V6 twin turbo versus Blown V8...there's no replacement for displacement.
When I started looking, I thought I was settled on an EB as well. We don't tow and liked the 5.0 better. This is what we ended up with and have since added tinted windows, Undercover SE bed cover, and a Bedrug.

If you can see a 4 cylinder twin turbo Evo reach over 500hp...the no replacement for displacement doesn't always apply! Those supercharges on the 5.0 sound awesome!
Almost 20K miles on my 5.0l, 3.55, Supercab. Love it to death! As a techy guy when it comes to cars/ trucks I wanted an EcoBoost, but the discounts on the 5.0L were hard to pass on a truck I would have been under-utilizing if I had gone EcoBoost.
One thing to watch with the 5.0L though is oil level, this motor does burn a little oil. I average about 1 qt every 2500-3K miles +/-
In my trucks defense, it is my work truck. Works and gets driven hard daily and put away wet, lots of stop & go, off & on etc... Always have 600-1000 in tools and gear in the box, lots of hilly driving and pulling ans passing on steep grades.
