My 2019;F350 has “Police Mode” enabled by default where previous years required FORScan to activate it.
Today I went to hook up my 5th wheel. I left the engine running and took keys with me to unlock the 5th wheel. When I got back so I could back the truck up to hitch the trailer, the gear shift wouldn’t come out of park even though I had my keys with me.
I tried to turn the truck off and on but still wouldn’t budge. I exited the truck, locked it, unlocked in, got back in , started the engine and iThe shifter still would not budge.
i had to exit the truck, lock it and wait 5 minutes before I was able to start it and get it out of park.
Good thing I wasn’t blocking traffic.
I thought about disabling Police Mode with FORScan but decided that next time I’ll turn the truck engine off before exiting with my keys.
Did say it couldn't detect key on the dash when you got back in? What I do is say OK, and put key in the spot to then make sure I can shift from Park. I am in and out of the truck a fair bit and have never had it not fairly quickly detect my key/FOB and let me shift. Mines a 2017 in signature, and its had this on since early 2017 in Police Mode.
It has happened to others with earlier trucks. There is at least one thread on the issue. It may be worth your while to search for it. I don't have any recollection if there was a resolution beyond restoring the module to factory settings through Forscan since this can, as you point out, result in some major inconvenience.
I was considering turning on the feature but the issues were common enough to cause me to change my mind.
When my 2017 would not go into drive I did the same as you. I even left it for half an hour while shopping and came back. No change. Then out of frustration I tried everything I could think of. I put on the E brake and it shifted out of park. When I disabled it the driver's seat heat went back to normal operation. It kept turning on the heated seat by itself. Somehow things are related. I want to try it again when I will be close to home for a while.
