460 build up questions??

460 build up questions??

I have a 429 out of a 72' LTD. I am putting different heads on it D2's are not so good I'm told. I am putting this in a 4x4.I would like to know if cast iron heads would be better than aluminum heads on a 4x4? If so then which heads should I get that would be easy to install roller rockers? I plan on mud bogging and the rpm's will be up there? I also plan on swapping in a 460 crank and rods or a stroker kit. Anyone who can help?

The Elelbrock heads should work nicely, as will the FRPP Cobra Jet heads. If you are going racing, then I would use the aluninum heads if the funds permit.

hey man, i would stick with either the edelbrock heads(funds permitting) or a set of cast iron heads, such as dove-c's or police interceptors(both of wich are set up from the factory with screw in studs. for a four by you'll want this motor to have lots of low end grunt. the cubic inches helps out a lot. keep the cam duration to around 220-224 @ .050. put roller rockers on it, and get a good intake for it, i recommend the delbrock performer rpm or the weiand stealth. put a 750 cfm carb on it and a good set of headers. keep the compression around 9.0 to 1. this out to get you some serious horsepower with awesome low end torque. good luck man
