Bump timimg or no?

I had my 351 bumped to 10-11° when i did heavy hauling to bring the torque curve down for better off idle pull. I only put 4-5000 miles on a year so i didnt care about mileage. Now that it's my daily drive as I await my 2020, I put it back to factory 8° and actually gained 1-2 mpg.
If you want mileage, I'd leave it alone and be more gentle on the takeoff. I try to keep rpms under 2500 while shifting thru gears.

I drive like a grandpa all the time anyway. Since this is my first gas vehicle in 20 years I’ve been doing a little reading up on it. I seen where timing had been discussed a few times and was wondering. I’m pretty sure base timing on my 96 with the spout unplugged is 10*. I’ll bump it to 12 and see what happens. It’s getting a constant 12.5 mpg which from what I’ve read isn’t crazy bad. Thanks for the replies
