I have a 91 Bronco, EB Edition with a 351W. Over the years My friends and I have maintenanced it and keep it going strong. Now I have come to the point of trying to get better gas mileage. Currently, I am getting 10.8 mpg. I know that I can get better than this. There are no "check engine" lights coming on, and I have gone from changing my engine seals and gaskets, switching to a K&N air filter, replacing my fuel pressure regulater, MLP sensor, vacum canister, etc. I have even switched over to manual locking hubs.
Is there something I can do on the transfer case or transmision?
I have an 88 Bronco, EB Edition with a 351 and all i can tell you is that 10.8 mpg is about right. i get 10 mpg. i have just learned to deal with the fact that i know the names of all the gass attendants ant my local Hess, Exon, Mobile and BP.
I have a 96 351, and I get 13 (but I have a catback, headers, and a high flow Y pipe). 11 is about average for the 351. You might be able to get slightly better mileage with a manual tranny. The only thing you could really do is put a 5.0 in there. Sorry to tell you.
My '95 EB with a 351/automatic and 3:55 gears gets a steady 15 mpg under average driving, some hiway, some in town. It is about as stock as it could be except for 33's. And yes, that mileage is adjusted for the tires using a GPS. I am not gentle with it but it is not always hotrodded either.
if and when you find something that increases your gas milage i would love to hear about it. my 91 5.8 with 31's has always gotten between 11 and 12 mpg. i drive it very gentle and it is rarely reved over 1500 to 2000 rpm's. i think that 10.8 is ok for the type of driving that you say you do. but good luck and let me know if you find something.
I got a 460 in mine... 750 Edelbrock carb, L&L Headers, dual cats/exhaust and MSD dizzy, 3.50 gears, 32" BFG A/T's C-6 Auto... I get 11 MPG on highway 9-10 in the city...
I just picked up a 96 VW Passat VR6 with 98,000 miles on it for $4000 (bought from a good friend which is why I got deal..) so that will be my daily driver and it will get 24-30mpg! I will drive the Bronco when I want to have fun and haul stuff etc.

I have a '90 EB 5.8L/auto/3.55 and got about 12 mpg on the highway when the truck was new. I've been trying to get better mileage ever since I bought it. I now get slightly under 15mpg highway. The two things that made the biggest difference were putting in a K&N air filter and replacing the junk Goodyear Wranglers that came on the Bronco with a decent tire, in my case Dunlop Radial Rovers.
I have a 86 w/ a 302, lifted on 35's and I get about 10 on the hiway(well, when the tranny allowed me to go over 45)...and in the city lately I've been gettin over 10...Try to figure that one out.
I'm gettin better mpg w/ 2 gears in a AOD tranny, than when I had all 4 gears. Oh well.
I also have a pumped up 460, i get 7-8 mpg in the city . But on the highway i jump too 16-19 mpg.Headers =flowmasters=alittle bit better.Still you can't beat the tire smoke and tourqe on demand lol.If i want better mpg i drive my other truck,if i want fun and enjoyment i drive the BRONCO.
I'm not really worried about the gas mileage, I just love driving my Bronco, and if there is anything I can do to keep a little extra money in my pocket I will.
I would just like to know what my options are, if any.
I do have a K-Car if I need to save money on gas mileage.
And to you, 96f350rcsrw460zf, what the hell kind of a name is that. You should have used "The Wizard350" or something.
Just remember to keep your truck up to speed the next time your on 422 and want to use the cruise control, ha ha ha.
see ya sunday.
I know a lot of guys with Broncos and you're in the normal range, you're not gonna do much better. Maybe a little bit if you put on headers and a high flow exhaust. You don't honestly think the manual hubs affected your mileage do you?
