A couple days ago I got a whiff of coolant when I parked my truck, but I didn't see any coolant on the ground or elsewhere. Today I found a couple spots on my driveway, and I figured it was going to be the infamous radiator leak or turbo coolant line leak. I don't see any sign that either of those is the culprit. I find coolant drops on the bottom of where the lower radiator hose connects to the bottom of the engine on the front driver's side. I've looked pretty hard above this spot, and I just don't see anything wet up there or in the valley by the turbo. Unless I have a hose failing at the connection point to the engine, I'm not sure where the fluid is coming out unless maybe it's a oring inside the 90* fitting. I'll throw a couple pics up here, and I'll call my dealership tomorrow for an appt. I'm still covered by my extended warranty, which is why I was kind of hoping the radiator was the problem. I'd rather that not pop once my warranty runs out.
I didn't find any reports of this kind of problem in the coolant leak posts I found on here, but I did stop looking after a few pages of posts. What have you guys seen like this before? Thanks.
Thanks guys. I'm leaving it alone so they have the crumb trail to the problem. Hard for me to not try and figure it out, but that's why I got the extended warranty.
Today's update. The dealership had a diesel tech go home sick on Thursday when I took my truck in. So they got backlogged, and today was my truck's turn in the garage bay. My service writer was working today, and he called me this afternoon to let me know that the tech found the water pump AND the radiator were bad. I had told the SW that I had hoped the radiator was bad when I dropped it off because then it would be covered by my ESP. So when he called me with the news, I replied with a "super"!
I still have to wait for Ford to approve the repairs, but the SW is hopeful they can get the approval and repairs done on Monday. So assuming this goes through with Ford's approval, I should have a coolant system in better shape after this is all finished. That will feel good because I hate smelling coolant while driving a rig.
If your coolant is orange I would have them put in the new green coolant. The green stuff no longer needs to be "revitalized".
I hadn't heard that there was a new coolant for use in our trucks that didn't require additive. Sure sounds odd to me given the long life of the orange extended life coolant provided the additive check was performed. When did the recommended coolant change?

I'd probably NOT switch, unless you are willing to pay Ford to do a full system flush, and then I'd do both cooling systems. Not sure its worth the cost/effort? But, what I would ask the dealership to do is to replace the drained coolant with new, along with distilled water(you provide) on your dime. Otherwise, I am pretty sure they will reuse the old that they captured draining the system to do the work. Finally, while they are in the area, you might consider having them replace the serpentine belt. Should be little additional labor (but verify that, as they might try to charge book time).
