I have been lucky in the past when I was homeless I had a vehicle to sleep in most the time. Only once did I not have one, and I had already started my VA benefits by then, so I was able to stay at a converted apartment complex for homeless vets. If they really think all laid off workers can get unemployment and be fine, they are mistaken. Even if everyone were to qualify, what little unemployment pays will not even be enough for rent, much less food, or other necessities. And yes they can apply for emergency food stamps, but that buys food, doesn't make rent or PG&E payments.

I now have mustard plant growing. It's really tasty. Like spinach, a huge bunch cooks down to a cup. Then it's still not enough for a meal. The lime tree is producing. Plum & peaches are flowering. Potato plants look good, but I can't tell what the potato looks like under the dirt. Mint has popped up, and it's giving me more than needed. Calla Lily are all over, but not edible. Onions look good too. Fig trees are showing leaves, so it should have fruit soon. The figs are really juicyvand sweet. Surprising, in San Francisco cold weather. I'm thinking of planting Japanese pumpkin.

Good morning,

Rob, it sounds like you have nice garden. We have kale, spinach, swiss chard, cilantro and radishes in the greenhouse that we grew all winter. We don't have anything outside yet. We had 19° low the first of the week.

I have no garden. I have no patience either. So waiting for anything to grow is out of the question. Of course, living in an apartment is the main reason for no garden. LOL

Happy first day of lock down fellow inmates. Hope cabin fever hasn't set in already. Mr governor sir, could you ship me three months worth of food so I can comply with your lock down requests and not be sent to jail where they have 3 free meals a day and a nice solid roof over my head...wait..that might not be a bad idea. Except for the 250 other people breathing sneezing and coughing all over everyone else. Never mind sir, just bring the 3 months of food, I'll leave the light on for you.

Tim, I really don't have a garden. I toss garbage in the yard. I have some compost worms. I try to keep all the food scraps in the worm bins. Then pile yard scraps like leaves, grass clippings, with produce trimming like carrot tops, onion skins, apple cores, corn cobs & husk, and eventually work that into the worm bins.

With plenty of worm castings , escaped worms in the soil, and whatever seeds from the grocery store..... I now have edibles. Not enough to feed myself without going shopping. But enough to find surprise meals when I want something fresh.

Somehow, wild onion, considered a weed, got into the yard. I know what is because I have eaten it from the woods on camping trips. Allium Triquetrum. It also grows wild on the sidewalk, and a nearby hillside. A few years ago, I picked some in the park, and fed it to an ex-girlfriend's parents. She was livid. The park is where dogs pee.

A celery base regrew. The wild onion was growing next to the celery. I ate them for lunch today.

Happy Saturday Jim!

What a week here. Last weekend, we were getting the HEAVY snow and now today, its Robin’s Egg blue sky and headed for the 70’s.

Life is adjusting for the locals and things seem to be settling out as we keep things going. Drive on folks, Drive on.

Made a run to HD today armed with hand santizer, disinfecting wipes, and latex gloves (XL). Ordered (online) a half-ton of flooring for the two north bedrooms. They (HD) had it all loaded on a pallet and 5 HD "associates" accompanied me to my truck. They loaded it all in the back of the truck, and I did not have to touch anyone or anything.

On the way home, I decided to stop at Safeway; parking lot only half full. Zero eggs. Zero TP. Zero pizza. Half the cheeses gone. Meat department inop, but I did get bananas. Everyone, both customers and staff at both HD and Safeway were super nice all around.

Made a trip to the Walmart Super center after calling ahead to see if they had any TP. they did, but ran out just before I got there, as the shelves were empty. I saw a customer while I was in the check out lane, who was leaving with one package of TP. I was able to get some paper towels, and a box of Kleenex tissues, so at least will have something. LOL

You can order from walmart.com. Then your delivery will get lost, just like your Amazon orders. 4 months later, there will be a notice to pick up the package at the post office. Or the Asian guy who always gets your packages, gets your package.

Can't order from Walmart.com. All toilet paper brands and sizes say in store purchase only, with no option to buy online, or for delivery. And Amazon.com wants me to wait until May 2-22nd for delivery. Yeah right. As for the Asian guy, will I guess he needs TP too. LOL
