Unfortunately, we already ruled out the Laramie area. The challenge of getting potable water in a reasonably priced well is the main reason. The hurricane force winds encountered while we were looking at properties was the nail in the coffin. Other than that, it was a nice area.

Good morning all, interesting times we are in... interesting times. I hope all is well with my FTE brethren, we're still holding down the fort here in the NE.

Because great minds think alike?
My requirements are simple. My wife's requirements, not so simple. She does NOT want to build a house. I don't mind building.
I don't mind being able to see my neighbors, but I don't want to hear or smell them.

Having gone to UW we both knew about the winds. But it had been 30 years since we spent any time in Laramie and the severity of the winds had faded from our memory. The flying gravel was what really did it.

Good morning peeps! I hope everyone is healthy and safe in these trying times. The impact to the oil industry has been fierce, let's pray that it's a short timeframe accompanies this brutal turndown.

The upstream oil and gas industry has been hit by more than just the Wuhan Virus. I have to wonder if the price war between Saudi Arabia and Russia hit the industry harder than the virus. Either way, I hope it comes back.

Good afternoon Wyoming, Tyler, Roy, and all who visit.. Happy Saturday #4! Sunny and warm so far, one wreck with a semi blocking all lanes westbound between here and Evanston.

Morning peeps! It's the last Friday of the week!
It most certainly is the price war Jim. Oilfield workers are "essential workers", at least here & CO.
Roy, a huge price war between Russia and OPEC has dropped the price per barrel of oil as much as 65%; all in a few short weeks. When the PPB goes down, producers cut back on their spend. When they do that there is a cascading effect among service providers. If the producers (think BP, Shell, Conoco) shorten their budget (by more than half in this case) they stop drilling new wells so drilling rigs/crews get shut down, Frac crews get shut down (think Haliburton). When some producing wells break down, they just shut them in instead of repair them. That means the service industry shuts down; no workover rigs running, no service crews providing rod strings, rod pumps, ESP pumps, Jet pumps, PC Pumps, pumping units, no roustabout crews building/maintaining locations etc.
Haliburton cut all employee pay by 50%, working them only 2 weeks/mo. The company I work for cut all salaried pay by 20%, cut bonuses & cut all overtime. More layoffs are coming in the Oil industry, I was part of that in 2015 & hoped to god i'd never see it on that scale again... At least around these parts, when the oil industry suffers the entire economy suffers right with them. It's lose/lose here in Wyoming.

Wyoming certainly knows the boom/bust cycle. Drawing other industries to the state would help, but they've been trying that for decades. There have been some wins though. Sheridan got Weatherby.
