First posting here. And thanks in advance!! need help figuring this out:
2002 F250 4X4 7.3 Diesel Manual Trans 245K Mi. Driving down the road in 4th and down shifted to 3rd with the increasing incline, when I let out the clutch it revved up
as if I had it in neutral no other unusual sounds, tried all other gears and same thing, Clutch remained disengaged, What?? came to the end of my momentum to a rolling stop.
Had to have it towed home. It will shift into all gears while sitting still without pushing down on the clutch pedalI and engine off. I Admit I have never checked the level of transmission fluid, but I did replace the clutch slave with the pre bled pre filled tubes and reservoir from Napa.
This truck has been more dependable than any girlfriend I've ever had and I'm not giving up on her. It has run on cooking oil and even used crank case oil (put in new fuel filter when I made it back) when that's all I had, but it got me HOME!!. I'm not a mechanic but I have done many simple part replacement. Any suggestions would be very appreciated thank's
Measure your distance to the clutch fork. The early version had trouble breaking. The updated version is reinforced beyond that spot.
some have had trouble with the old versions breaking after changing to new and longer weak hydralics
The only thing I can think of is catastrophic friction material failure.
Pull the inspection cover off bellhousing and look for evidence of friction material or some other indication of a problem??
Good luck and keep us posted!
Friction disk or pressure plate. Although the fork may be bent, it only affects the disengaging of the pressure plate.
But I've seen "clutch issues" not be clutch issues.
