Does anyone have any experience with Ironman tires ?
a local mom & pop shop has 35x12.5r20 set new for $750 installed. They have some kind of 5yr 40k warranty. The thread pattern seems decent. My contact said they are a good tire, not a toyo but not $1300 either.
Fairly low quality tires, most I have seen are made in Korea, China and Vietnam. They are a sub tier company under Hercules. Not something I would run. FYI if you found Toyo 35x12.5 in for 1300.00 you should get those. At least those are known good quality tires made in the US. I just paid 413.00 per Toyo last week plus tax and mounting.

have you run the Ironman tires or just based on internet searching ? Most of the people that have run them say they’re good. On the lower end but good for the price. With all bigger mud tires they need to be balanced and maybe after some wear, and of course constantly rotated.
I’ve had toyos in the past, they run well. But also twice as expensive.
arent toyos based out of Japan ?
I had Hercules tires on a car about 20yrs ago. They were great in snow. Now here’s the thing.... you want to put a knock off brand on a super duty that weighs 8000lbs and tows anywhere from 15k to 20k lbs (assuming crew cab)? Just some words of wisdom here.......
play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
how will a blow out affect you? How would an accident affect you? Is safety important to you? Do you tow? Do you know the ply or load rating? There’s more to consider than getting a set of tires for $700.
With so much literally and figuratively riding on your tires, no way I would go with a knock off brand. I like to save a few bucks like everyone else but, I never cut corners when buying tires. Your ride, your safety....guess you need to decide if it's worth the gamble....
I was just talking to my brother in law who is a big off roading guy and tire guy. He says the tires aren’t a bad tire but they are extremely loud on the road and the tire wear rate is terrible due to the soft rubber compound. He said if you use these off-road only, they will be good. If you are buying the tire for everyday grocery getter use, expect to replace at about 15-20k miles. He also didn’t recommend towing due to the soft rubber compound.
If you are looking at Toyo (or any tire brand), check the price on Walmart.com, and have Discount Tire price match. I got my set of 285/75/17 AT2 Extremes for $820 shipped.
As as far as the Ironman tires; a truck driver at work runs them on his Chevy 1500 and is happy with them. I wouldn't run a cheap tire like that on a 8,000lb truck...not so much for fear of a blowout, but because cheap tires are known to wear very quickly. No point in trying to save a buck, when in the long run it will cost just the same (or more if you do have issues with the tire).

They are not related to Hercules in any way. Ironman tires are a Cooper private label with no mileage warranty.
While I agree about not putting cheap tires on expensive vehicles, we have been selling these now, along with Michelin, BFGoodrich, Uniroyal, and Cooper tires, we have had absolutely zero complaints and nothing but good feedback. We could not be more pleased for the price point..
Never heard of a mileage warranty on a 10 ply tire...
you’re right, it’s a thread warranty. The shop offered an additional mileage warranty.
from what I’ve gathered is they’re noisy tires, wear is like most mud tires, rotate & balance often
weight rating is E 3126lbs each
the worn out tires I’ve seen look like the material gets hard. No chunks missing or weird cavities. Some of the other used/worn tires look ragged like if small pieces of the thread were missing. I’ll post pics in a few.
my truck is mostly a commuter, I hauled a front end loader 30miles once. Other then that i just drive.
i think the toyos are overrated, I think they’re pricey cause they come out in magazines. Everybody’s gotta have’em. My last 2 sets made noise, had to rotate and lasted maybe 50-60k on my 14’ F150. I traded that truck in with 210,005miles. 2 sets of Toyos then a set of Hankooks. Hankook was a great tire, smooth af, not noisy and wore down well.
im still on the fence of what to buy, but it probably ain’t gonna be toyos, Nittos have interersted me as well again we’re back to designer tires. The Alturo is another tire I’m considering, it’s performed very well for the guys I know running them.
I’ve never seen them on an SD but I have two friends that run them on F150’s (from the dealers with dealer installed lifts & aftermarket wheels) and they are happy with them. I’m sure they are an inexpensive option for the upfitters at the dealerships. But, they are much lighter trucks - and they are loud tires...a Bluetooth phone call is tough in their ride.
