My 2017 F350 will be three years old next month. Had one experience with finding tailgate open back in first 6 months of ownership. Had oil changed yesterday and they did the tailgate recall along with some other recall where they pull up the carpet in the cab. Well, I just opened the garage door and heard a lot of banging going on and stopped the door. Tailgate had opened and plastic got gouged up on garage door hinges. So much for the tailgate recall! This whole thing is ridiculous, Ford really got me good this time.
That is the one recall, out of 3, that I did not have done. I have never had the tailgate open on its own, and after reading this, and another recent post on here, I might postpone as long as I can.
The dealer was trying to get me to do it last time, saying it was a safety issue.
I brought my truck in a month or so ago to have the tailgate recall looked at (even though it never opened on its own). Now my tailgate won't open! What a joke. I have a 7:00 appointment in the morning back at the same dealership.
Crap. My wife picked mine up today for a couple of recalls including the tailgate. I’ll check to see if it opens when I get home.
Side note is we were given an expedition for a few days as a loaner- needless to say we will be buying another suburban when the new model is released. Not overly impressed.
Sitting here at the dealership... lol. They said something about 2 white wires and one green wire. Who knows. My advice is to test your tailgate if you have had the recall performed.
Took mine in for several recalls, defects and death wobble early in Jan and most work was not completed due to lack of parts. With 15K miles on my 2019, I never had the tailgate issue until a few days ago when we had a heavy, wet snow. Sure enough, it dropped down while in the garage against the trash cans.
Needless to say, all manufactures have issues to include recalls. However, Ford is getting rediculous and I am getting tired of constant trips to the dealership where I it is an ongoing fight to get warranty work completed. If I wouldn't take a bath on trade in, this truck would have been gone already. Going back to GM
After reading all this, I'm more and more convinced that my decision NOT to spend another $20K for all the extra bells and whistles was a good one! My 2017 XL STX with it's manual tailgate and no moon roof is looking better and better all the time!

BINGO!!! I agree 100%. I love my ‘17 STX and the manual tailgate 😂. Carpet + power equipment and I’m good to go. Only miss the power folding mirrors. Other than that - it’s the perfect truck.
Well, all fixed. Turns out last time I brought it in for the recall, the dealer failed to inform me they didnt have the parts, and locked my tailgate closed. I didn't find out the gate was locked until the other day, when I measured my fifth wheel hitch as a favor to a guy here on another forum, and couldn't get the tailgate to open.

Got to love dealerships!
You never had an unintended opening, so why would they lock it. That is lame. That should have been in the notes on the reciept, work order, whatever they call it.
I opted out of that recall when I had the other 2 done, they simply told me its a safety issue. Glad they didn't lock me out of my bed. I have a bed cover, if the tailgate wont open I cant get into the bed.
So, after having the tailgate recall done the release button on the tailgate doesn't work. In order to open the tailgate I have to use either the key fob or the button in the cab. Does anyone know if this is on purpose/by design or did the dealership mess it up?

I had this done on mine and everything works as it did before. key fob, button in truck and button on tailgate all still open the tailgate and function as before. Sounds like your dealer messed something up.
I think I'll opt out of having any recall work done. I've not had the tailgate drop in three years so I guess I'll stick with the "if it aint broke don't fix it" line.
