97 Ford E-350 Shifter issues

All: I have been having issues with the shifter on my 97 E-350. A quick look at Youtube suggests my van is not unique (it has about 155Kmi). I ordered a new shifter tube and bushings, but wondered if there is anything else I should attend to when I lower the steering column. My van also starts chiming at odd times, but I have assumed that was related to the shifter. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

No idea what "issues with my shifter" translates into factually---WHAT is it doing or not doing exactly?

The shifter is very sloppy. I can’t put it in Park most of the time. Apparently a common problem with worn bushings on the shifter tube. I am assuming the random chimes are related.
