2003 7.3 no power
So I am finally getting to work on my friends pickup. 2001 F350 7.3 no power. It is also stalling and shutting down at times. I am going to replace the CPS, change oil and filter, change air and fuel filters. It does get serviced regularly so I am not suspecting any trouble there.
When driving I cant hear the turbo whine. When I hold the brake and rev the engine there is no turbo sound. I looked at the wastegate and the lever looks like it should be closed. It does move free, hard to push but it does move back and forth. I don't remember the code number I am getting but it says low boost pressure or low turbo pressure.
I pulled the air inlet pipe off of the turbo and the wheel looks good. It does have a wicked wheel installed that has been on it a couple of years. The wheel looks good, it spins free but I do notice something I want to learn more about. When I grab the wheel and work it in and out the shaft moved about 1/4 inch in and out. I don't feel any movement up and down but in and out it does move a lot. Is this a sign of a problem? How much end play should it have?
